Child Orthodontics Treatment in Karachi
Orthodontic treatment in young children is known as interceptive Child Orthodontics at Rehan Dental Surgery and it can begin as early as age 6 or 7. At this age, teeth are still developing and the jaw is still growing. That means certain conditions, such as crowding, may be easier to address. It is important to note that early treatment does not apply to all orthodontic problems; however, it may help in certain cases.
Two conditions that require early treatment are crossbites and Overbite. A Crossbite can cause the jaws to grow unevenly. Overbite is when the front teeth stick out and may get fractured or injured in an accident, such as a fall.
Benefits of Child Orthodontics Treatment
Children’s orthodontics focuses on correcting jaw growth and dental alignment at an early age. With the help of braces and functional appliances, we can guide teeth into the right position while your child is still growing. Today’s braces are designed to be comfortable, attractive, and effective, making treatment a positive experience for kids and parents alike.
Orthodontic care for children works best when started early, as the jaw and teeth are still developing. Braces and appliances gently move teeth into their proper place, improving bite and smile. With modern technology, treatments are now more comfortable, quicker, and less noticeable, giving children the confidence of a healthy smile.
What your child should eat during treatment
Limit sugary and starchy foods, as they can cause plaque and damage teeth during orthodontic treatment. Avoid hard or sticky snacks like popcorn, nuts, gum, and caramel, which may harm braces. For extra protection, ask our dentist about fluoride varnish to help prevent white spots after treatment.
Care After Procedure
Good dental hygiene is essential for children with braces or retainers. Encourage your child to rinse with water several times a day and brush carefully after each meal using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Replace the toothbrush every 3–4 months, and help them floss daily with the aid of a floss threader if needed. Regular dental checkups every six months ensure proper cleaning, healthy gums, and guidance for better oral care during treatment.
