Bionator Appliance
Overview
Bionator Appliance at Rehan Dental Surgery
The Bionator is a loose-fitting functional orthodontic appliance that allows children to speak normally right after use, unlike the activator which requires longer adaptation. It helps balance the tongue and surrounding muscles to guide proper jaw and dental arch development. Unlike the activator, it does not account for facial growth direction, but it stimulates natural muscle activity to correct malocclusions. The Bionator mainly targets tongue function, while the Frankel appliance focuses more on overall neuromuscular control.
Standard Bionator Appliance
The standard appliance and Retainers were used for the treatment of Class II division I correcting the backward position of the tongue. It was also used for the treatment of narrow dental arches of Class I to stimulate tongue function and increase the volume or mass of the tongue and achieve lip closure.
Open Bite Bionator Appliance
This appliance is constructed to correct the abnormal position of the tongue. Thus, the palatal and vestibular wires are the same as the traditional appliances. The labial bow is placed at the height of the correct lip closure to stimulate the lip to achieve a competent seal. The construction bite is as low as possible.
