Flap Surgery

Overview

At Rehan Dental Surgery, we offer advanced periodontal procedures such as Flap Surgery and Pocket Reduction Surgery to effectively treat gum disease. These treatments are designed to reduce the depth of the gingival sulcus (periodontal pockets) that form due to gum infection. By minimizing these pockets, we help prevent plaque buildup and create better access for maintaining oral hygiene. This process not only improves gum health but also eliminates environments where harmful bacteria thrive, ensuring stronger, healthier teeth and gums.

Flap Surgery and Pocket Reduction surgery

Flap Surgery and Pocket Reduction Surgery the Bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth like a turtleneck. When you have periodontal disease, this supporting tissue and bone is destroyed, forming “pockets” around the teeth. Over time, these pockets become deeper, providing a larger space for bacteria to thrive and wreak havoc. Flap Surgery and Pocket reduction surgery is sometimes performed to remove tartar deposits in deep pockets or to reduce the periodontal pocket and make it easier for you to keep the area clean. This common surgery involves lifting back the gums and removing the tartar. The gums are then sutured back in place so that the tissue fits snugly around the tooth again. Flap surgery is typically done under local anesthesia, sometimes accompanied by oral anti-anxiety medications; alternatively, it may be performed under intravenous conscious sedation. After anesthesia has taken effect, a small incision is made to separate the gums from the teeth. The outer gum tissue is gently folded back to give access to the roots and the supporting ligament and bone tissue.
