Overview
Dental rubber bands, also called elastics, are small but very important parts of orthodontic treatment. At Rehan Dental Surgery, these elastics are often prescribed by our expert orthodontists to correct different kinds of malocclusions (problems with the way your upper and lower teeth fit together).
They work by applying gentle, continuous pressure that helps move teeth and jaws into their proper position. This improves both function (how well your teeth bite and chew) and appearance (your smile and facial balance).
Our top-class professional dentists carefully guide patients on how and when to wear elastics, since wearing them correctly and consistently is key to successful treatment. Elastics are simple to use, but they play a big role in making braces treatment effective and achieving a perfect, long-lasting smile.
Dental Rubber Bands and Elastics for Braces at Rehan Dental Surgery
Dental elastics, or rubber bands, are commonly used in orthodontics to correct different types of malocclusions. They may be worn between the upper and lower arches (intermaxillary elastics) or within the same arch (intra-maxillary elastics). Elastics apply gentle, continuous pressure to help move teeth and jaws into proper alignment.
Patients usually need to change elastics 3–4 times a day and wear them 12–23 hours daily, depending on the orthodontist’s instructions. Consistent use is crucial for success, as compliance directly affects treatment results. Different types of elastics produce different forces, so they are prescribed carefully by the orthodontist.
Rubber bands are manufactured from cured rubber tubes cut into small bands. Though simple, they play a vital role in achieving proper bite and smile correction.
