Child Orthodontics Treatment in Karachi

Orthodontic treatment in young children is known as interceptive Child Orthodontics at Rehan Dental Surgery and it can begin as early as age 6 or 7. At this age, teeth are still developing and the jaw is still growing. That means certain conditions, such as crowding, may be easier to address. It is important to note that early treatment does not apply to all orthodontic problems; however, it may help in certain cases.

Two conditions that require early treatment are crossbites and Overbite. A Crossbite can cause the jaws to grow unevenly. Overbite is when the front teeth stick out and may get fractured or injured in an accident, such as a fall.

Benefits of

Child Orthodontics Treatment

Treatment at an early age takes advantage of the fact that the child’s jaw is still growing. Early treatment may also be beneficial when the dental arches and jaws are malpositioned.

Functional appliances help to fix or improve these problems. More treatment is usually required later on, but it may be less involved and shorter.

Kids braces have improved a lot in the past couple of decades. Technology has made them more comfortable and more attractive than the braces most parents remember wearing. They’re also more affordable, meaning many more children have them.

During fixed Child Orthodontic treatment, metal braces and wires are held in place by elastic rubber bands on orthodontic brackets (braces) on each tooth and inserted into bands around the molars. The Child Orthodontics treatment can be made from metal or a more aesthetic ceramic material. Ni-Ti is used as the initial arch wire as it has good flexibility, allowing it to exert the same forces regardless of how much it has been deflected. There is also heat activated Ni-Ti wire which tightens when it is heated to body temperature. The arch wires interact with the brackets to move teeth into the desired positions.

Fixed orthodontic appliances aid tooth movement, and are used when a 3-D movement of the tooth is required in the mouth and multiple tooth movement is necessary. Ceramic fixed appliances can be used which more closely mimic the tooth color than the metal brackets. Some manufacturers offer self-litigating fixed appliances where the metal wires are held by an integral clip on the bracket themselves. These can be supplied as either metal or ceramic.

The surfaces of the teeth are etched, and brackets and retainers are attached to the teeth with an adhesive that is durable enough to withstand the orthodontic forces, but is able to be removed at the end of treatment without damaging the tooth. Currently there is not enough evidence to determine whether self-etch preparations or conventional etchants cause less decalcification around the bonding site and if there is a difference between them in bond failure rate. The bonding material must also adhere to the surface of the tooth, be easy to use and preferably protect the tooth surface against caries (decay) as the orthodontic appliance becomes a trap for plaque. Currently a resin/matrix adhesive which is command light cured is most commonly used. This is similar to composite filling material.

What your child should eat during treatment

Restrict your child’s sugar and starch consumption, as particles left behind from those types of foods may additionally become destructive acids, which can be dangerous to teeth and gums and promote plaque formation.

Avoid hard and/or sticky snacks that can be hard to get rid of from the orthodontic device in your child’s mouth. This consists of tough foods including popcorn, hard sweets, nuts, and ice chips, and sticky snacks like chewing gum, caramel, and other chewy sweets.

Ask Rehan Dental Surgery dentist regarding the use of a fluoride varnish around the braces to reduce white spots on the tooth after the braces come off.

Care After Procedure

Good dental hygiene is very important for children with retainers and other dental appliances. Three to four times per day have your child rinse with water to loosen the food that might have accumulated in the braces.

Make sure that your child is brushing his/her teeth cautiously after each meal with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush, as food debris might easily get lodged inside the braces.

A brand new toothbrush may be required every 3 to 4 months or sooner if bristles are damaged or frayed. A worn toothbrush doesn’t do a great job of cleaning the teeth.

Once every day, you should help your youngster floss, which slackens food debris and plaque at and under the gum line that would otherwise solidify into tartar. A floss threader may be useful to carry the floss under the arch wire. It can help clean the niches and corners in the teeth that may be hard to reach with a toothbrush.

Flossing with braces can be troublesome, however you can utilize numerous alternatives to help guarantee the gums remain healthy. You should also converse with our orthodontists or dentists for oral care recommendations.

Every half year, take your kid to our dentists for a cleaning and a checkup. Our dental specialist can indicate areas in his or her teeth that require more work, and help ensure you’re keeping your kid’s teeth healthy and clean in and around the braces. Our dentists will suggest helpful tools or ideas to keep your child’s teeth healthy while the braces are on.
